Empowering Educators, Inspiring Innovators

Kids and Codes’ Training Program aims to prepare STEM tutors to include Design Thinking and Entrepreneurial Concepts in their training, enabling them to encourage students to build tech projects relevant to their environments.

Through this training, tutors will develop the experience required to support their students in applying technology ideas in real-life settings. Therefore, the children will be more engaged in their environments, capable of expressing their views and solving their challenges.

Tutors will learn:

By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to engage students in meaningful and effective STEM learning experiences. The main output of the program is to allow tutors to gradually build a lesson plan including all the ideas covered in the course.

The Roadmap of Your Success

1. Starting Point: After the first session, you fill out the lesson plan template we provide, submit it by uploading it to a specific Google Form for deliverables, and reflect on your experience on social sharing platforms like Padlet.
2. Progress: Starting from the second session, you update your lesson plans according to the session content and submit another program version.
3. Finishing Line: By the end of the course, you will have mature and well-designed lesson plans that can give outputs that match the learning objectives you aim at.
At the end of the training, tutors will have the opportunity to develop their lesson plans further by presenting them in front of an educational jury to assess their proficiency in designing all the aspects of the learning experience, their presentation, and teaching skills.
The most promising tutors will have the opportunity to participate in an upcoming Children’s Training in the field of STEM, where they can practically apply all that they learned.

Success Stories

During April and May 2023, 19 STEM tutors attended the first cohort of this training which was funded as part of the Education Resilience in Europe project, coordinated by European Schoolnet and funded by the Grant Agreement signed on 21 September 2022 with Cisco Foundation. The project is supported by the STE(A)M Partnerships of Scientix, an initiative of European Schoolnet.

The training was delivered by Khoulod Ghanem (Electrical Engineer and Founder of Kids&Codes) and Sana Hawasly (Computer Engineer, with a master’s degree in Education and Technology from University College London, UCL/Co-founder of Daraty www.daraty.com)

The selection of nominated applicants was according to the following criteria:

At the end of the first phase, the 19 tutors proposed training courses. 6 of those were chosen to move on to the second phase because their proposals met the following criteria:

The chosen tutors then trained 19 children on a project-based learning program using Design Thinking, forming 6 teams.

The tutors worked on building and developing Design Thinking skills and employed them to help children solve their real-world problems

Six final projects were ready after 3 weeks of training using Scratch and Micro_bit.
You can learn about the first cohort’s key insights and findings of this program through this White Paper.
